Smart City - Remote Monitoring For Pump Stations

Overview

The end user is a leading provider of wastewater services and water treatment in the Middle East, focusing on reducing waste and improving sustainability. They have extensive experience in collecting and treating wastewater from residential, commercial, and industrial customers, ensuring safe disposal of both solid and liquid waste.

Challenge

The customer requires a cost-effective industrial-grade cellular router to transfer data from RTUs to multiple remote SCADA systems. The router must support DNP3 Serial to DNP3 UDP implementation. Due to the outdated SCADA system, the customer cannot use the same remote port in SCADA servers and needs a router capable of sending data to multiple remote ports. This router must offer a variety of functions to play a crucial role in the project.

Key Needs for Smart Gaming Machine:

  • Robust Design: Must operate reliably in harsh environments with high humidity and extreme temperature ranges.
  • Enhanced Functionality: Support for Transparent Mode and DNP3.
  • Superior Service: Provide reliable and secure data transmission to monitor remote RTUs in real-time.

Solution

In this application, the customer uses a single connection to program the RTU connected to the RS232 side of the NE2201-140. SCADA servers read data from the RTU via the RS232 connection on the NE2201-140. Sensors communicate data using DNP3, and the NE2201-140 converts DNP3 serial to DNP3 UDP. Due to the outdated SCADA system, the customer cannot use the same remote port in SCADA servers, so we utilized the port mapping function to forward the data as required.

Solution Advantages:

  • Cost Savings: Winsonic's NE2201-140 enables engineers to monitor real-time machine operations, respond quickly to faults, and plan preventive maintenance, significantly reducing manpower and costs.
  • Reliable Network Communication: The NE2201-140 router provides dependable, low-latency communication between the PLC and the center.
  • Operation in Harsh Environments: The NE2201-140's robust design, with high EMC levels, ensures all equipment remains connected and accessible online for remote visitors, even in challenging conditions.
