Smart City - Wastewater Management And Monitoring

Overview

In recent years, the environmental monitoring sector has faced significant challenges, including inadequate monitoring capabilities, outdated equipment, and delayed data processing. These issues have hindered the development of effective environmental monitoring, highlighting the urgent need for modernization and reform.

Challenge

Advancements in low-cost sensors and communication technologies are facilitating continuous monitoring for various applications. This involves using in-situ sensors with local processing and communication capabilities to log, process, store, and transmit data to the Environmental Monitoring Data Center. The Citect SCADA system connects to outstations for water and wastewater monitoring, which are equipped with controllers or RTUs. Communication has transitioned from radio to 4G, utilizing the Modbus protocol.

Key Needs for Smart Gaming Machine:

  • Robust Design: Must operate reliably in harsh environments with high humidity and extreme temperature ranges.
  • Enhanced Functionality: Support for PPP and Enhanced Modbus Gateway.
  • Superior Service: Provide reliable and secure data transmission to monitor remote RTUs in real-time.

Solution

In this application, the customer uses a single connection to program the PLC connected to the RS232 side of the NE2201-140. Another SCADA server reads data from the PLC via the RS232 connection on the NE2201-140. During this process, we developed a "PPP" connection mode for the 4G cellular connection, as most carriers only support DHCP mode for IP address requests. Additionally, we developed an Enhanced Modbus Gateway feature, allowing five Modbus Masters to communicate simultaneously with a Modbus slave.

Solution Advantages:

  • Cost Savings: Winsonic’s NE2201-140 enables engineers to monitor real-time machine operations, respond quickly to faults, and plan preventive maintenance, significantly reducing manpower and costs.
  • Reliable Network Communication: The NE2201-140 router provides dependable, low-latency communication between the PLC and the center.
  • Operation in Harsh Environments: The NE2201-140's robust design, with high EMC levels, ensures all equipment remains connected and accessible online for remote visitors, even in challenging conditions.
